All local incumbents win primary; head to November

Here are results from last night’s primary for Maryland Governor, Baltimore County Executive and the eastern Baltimore County races for State Senate, House of Delegates and County Council.

Governor Race
Democratic Gov. Wes Moore will face
Dan Cox in a rematch from 2022. Cox defeated Hale in the primary.

County Executive Race
Julian Jones easily won the Democratic nomination for County Executive over Izzy Patoka. Jones will face Republican Pat Dyer, who defeated Kim Stansbury 

House of Delegates/State Senate
Every incumbent state senator and delegate on the east side (Districts 6, 7 and 8) ran for relection and they all won.

Republican Sen. Johnny Ray Salling easily defeated Daniel Eisenhart in District 6.

There was one close race in the District 6 House of Delegates Republican primary,

Delegates Bob Long,  Robin Grammer and Ric Metzgar were all reelected but Henry Ciezkowski came within 400 votes of Metzgar for the third and final seat.

District 7A Delegates Ryan Nawrocki and Kathy Szeliga were unopposed along with Sen. J.B. Jennings.

District 8 Delegates Nick Allen, Harry Bhandari and Kim Ross were easily reelected in their primary.

Brian Campbell,  Steven Riemer, and Glen Geelhaar finished in the top three on the Republican side of District 8. Geelhaar is leading Jacqueline Stevenson for the final spot by 210 votes.

Democratic 8th District Senator Carl Jackson was unopposed in the primary and will face Republican challenger Yaku Blackwell in November.

County Council Races
Incumbent Democratic Councilman Mike Ertel Republican Councilman David Marks were both opposed.
Ertel will face Republican challenger Christine Vondersmith in the District 6 General Election and Marks will face Democrat Caridad “Cari” Santiago in November for the District 7 seat.

Sharonda Dillard-Huffman defeated Crystal Cody ran in District 8 Council Democratic primary.

Republican Josh Sines was unopposed in the primary and will face Dillard-Huffman in the General Election.

Tim Fazenbaker easily won the District 9 Council GOP primary.

He will face either Mark McCluskey or Arika Wade on the Democratic side.

After Early Voting and Election Day results, Wade was up by 50 votes.

Many more mail-in ballots still need to be counted.
