Szeliga Applauds Supreme Court Decision to Protect Women’s Sports

Delegate Kathy Szeliga released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox.

“I join the millions of female athletes, their coaches, their parents and grandparents who have cheered them on in thanking the Supreme Court for protecting the rights of girls in today’s decision that upholds Women in sports”, said Delegate Kathy Szeliga. “Every girl deserves the opportunity to compete safely and fairly, and today’s decision grants protections for female athletes, ensuring that their opportunities to compete are not taken by biological males.”
Delegate Szeliga adds,

“Justice Clarence Thomas pointed out that ‘Men and boys with gender dysphoria are not women or girls, even if they believe that they are,’ and I thank him for putting common sense on the record.”

For the last five years, Delegate Szeliga has introduced the Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act in Annapolis to ensure that only biological girls compete in high school girls’ JV and Varsity sports.

Delegate Szeliga is committed to protecting women and girls in competitive sports, and she will once again reintroduce the legislation next year so that every girl can compete safely and with fairness.

Marylanders overwhelmingly support fairness in girls’ sports, and Delegate Szeliga will not stop fighting for young women’s opportunity to compete against other women.
