Founded in 1953, the Presidential Salute Battery from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) will be in Parkville, Maryland this year to honor those who lost their lives as a result of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, 25 years ago.
A candlelight vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Putty Hill Shopping Center, located at 2531 Putty Hill Avenue.
The evening will conclude with a 21-gun salute performed by The Old Guard using four cannons brought to Maryland from Virginia. Each cannon weighs 5,775 pounds.
The cannons, which cannot fire live rounds, will fire 75mm blank rounds during the salute which will begin at approximately 8:20 p.m. The sound generated by the cannon fire is expected to last approximately 40 to 50 seconds.
Residents with children or pets sensitive to loud noises are encouraged to plan accordingly.
