The community is invited to rededicate the new Gerald L. Martin Track at Perry Hall High School, recently renovated thanks to county and state funding.
The ceremony is set for Friday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m., right before a Perry Hall Girls Soccer game against St. Paul.
The track is named for longtime cross-country and track coach Gerald L. “Jerry” Martin, a legendary physical education teacher who helped guide Gator teams to multiple championships in the 1980s and 1990s.
Baltimore County Councilman David Marks, who ran cross-country for Perry Hall High School from 1988 to 1990, noted that Martin was an extraordinary coach and mentor.
“Coach Martin is a beloved figure in the history of Perry Hall High School, and it has been an honor to support the resurfacing of this track. I thank all who made this possible, including County Executive Klausmeier, who assisted with state funding as a Senator. We welcome all those who knew him and were inspired by him to attend.”
“As a Board member and a proud member of the Perry Hall community, I’m thrilled to see our students have a facility worthy of their hard work, talent, and school pride. I look forward to seeing many milestones—and many finish lines—crossed here in the years ahead,” commented Fifth District Board of Education member Julie Henn.
“We would like to thank all those who worked to make this possible. The renovation of the Perry Hall high school track is a testament not just to Jerry Martin, but to all the athletes who have used it and will continue to enjoy sports at this facility” added Greg Apple, president of the Boosters.
All former students, runners, and colleagues of Coach Martin are invited to attend.
