Benstorming: “Check Facts Before Bragging About Being First”

Benstorming is an opinion column that comments on news in Eastern Baltimore County.

On Sunday night, Sunset Cove in Middle River announced they were closing its doors. It was very unfortunate announcement for that bar and its patrons.

Eastcountytimes.com spotted Sunset’s announcement immediately and was able to produce a write up that night.

The next day other news outlets also saw the announcement and wrote about the closure. No big deal.

Eastcountytimes.com just happened to get it first. Sometimes you are checking email or social media at the right time.

A site in the Nottingham area also wrote a story about Sunset Cove on Monday. Most of the time that site is the first to break many news stories, but not this time.

Again no big deal, but why is that site bragging about being the first to post the Sunset Cove story? It was clearly posted a day later after Eastcountytimes.com

Again no shame in not getting it first but don’t be disingenuous by stating to your readers you were the first to post the story when you were clearly posted it a day later.
