Eastpoint Mall closes after 70 years 

Eastpoint Mall shut its doors on Monday.

Rumors have been circulating all summer that the mall was set to close on Aug. 31.

Eastpoint did place a note at one of its food court doors confirming its last day was Aug. 31.

Eastpoint opened as an outdoor shopping center in 1956 before converting into a shopping mall.

In 1991, one of the closing anchor stores was converted into the food court and a Sears store was constructed at the end of the mall.

Eastpoint Mall released its first statement that acknowledged the closure of the mall but stated some stand alone stores will remain.

Here is the statement:

“Eastpoint Mall has closed the interior portion of the Mall.

The following stores will remain open:

JCPenney
Chick-fil-A Eastpoint
Checkers
Arby’s
McDonald’s
Crafty Crab
Staples
Spirit Halloween
Jazz Liquors
Gabes
KC Beauty
Black Friday Outlet Baltimore
Bennett’s Curse Haunted House Maryland”
