BCPL North Point Branch to close for renovations

Baltimore County Public Library announced the North Point Branch, located at 1716 Merritt Blvd. is set to close on Thursday, June 4, for the last phase of the ongoing HVAC project.

The branch’s last day for customers is Wednesday, June 3, which also includes the 24-hour drop box.

The last day to place a hold in the catalog for delivery to the North Point Branch is Friday, May 22.

During the closure, holds will automatically route to the Essex Branch, unless customers choose another branch in the drop-down menu. Full operations are expected to resume early this fall.

Customers who use North Point Branch are encouraged to visit the Essex Branch, Sollers Point Branch or any of other locations.

The digital library is also available for customers 24/7.

The North Point branch may be closed, but staff are still working to make resources available for  this summer.

• The bookmobile parked outside the branch every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting June 2 to browse the collection, borrow items, return materials and enjoy some summer fun for kids. Children can register for the Summer Reading Challenge to receive a free book and earn prizes.

• Staff are holding Toddler Story Time: Wiggles and Fun every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Jalapeños Market, 1790 Merritt Boulevard, 21222, beginning June 11 through August 27.

Story times may be bilingual and are ideal for newly mobile, active children; siblings and all abilities are welcome.

After story time, head over to the bookmobile in the parking lot to keep the fun going.

This three-phase project started November 17, with an initial project timeline of one year. The three phases are as follows:

• Phase 1- Covered the south side of the building, closing the meeting room and teen area.
• Phase 2- Covered the central part of the building.
• Phase 3- Covers the staff-only work areas as well as the public computer lab. This is the current phase of the project that requires closure for staff and customer safety.

Baltimore County Public Library continues to make improvements to all 19 branches so that all customers can enjoy 21st century libraries.
