The Baltimore County Council unanimously passed County Executive Kathy Klausmeier’s three-bill animal welfare legislative package on Monday night.
The comprehensive package—co-sponsored by Baltimore County Council Chair Mike Ertel, Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones, Baltimore County Councilman Izzy Patoka, and Baltimore County Councilman David Marks—was developed in close coordination with BCAS and Baltimore County Council, and addresses gaps in current law, improves outcomes for animals, and enhances public safety while also ensuring efficient use of taxpayer resources.
“I want to thank the Baltimore County Council for their partnership in passing this important legislation. This is a meaningful step forward,” Klausmeier said in a statement.
“Together we can strengthen and protection for all animals, support public safety, and create a system that helps protect animals from harm. I’m grateful to everyone who helped us close gaps- including animal welfare adovates- in order to hold people accountable.”
