Scheduled repairs are coming to a close on the historic Jericho Covered Bridge as Baltimore County makes efforts to preserve one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks.
All work is expected to be completed on Wednesday, August 26, at which time the detour will be ended.
For over 160 years, the Jericho Covered Bridge, crossing the Little Gunpowder Falls on Jericho Road, has served as a major landmark for both Baltimore and Harford Counties.
The bridge was first built in 1865 by Thomas F. Forsyth as a link between the two industrial towns of Franklinville and Jerusalem Mill. As the region developed, however, the bridge transformed into a connection to the area’s past.
Throughout the bridge’s history, it has undergone several repairs and restorations to maintain its historic character.
Today, it is the last standing covered bridge in Baltimore and Harford Counties.
“Maintaining the Jericho Covered Bridge is an important part of preserving the county’s history,” Councilman Marks commented.
“The work being done now ensures that the bridge will still be enjoyed by future generations.”
