Kathy Klausmeier was sworn in today as the 15th Baltimore County Executive.
The Baltimore County Council unanimously voted for her.
“I am committed to working with the council, Administrative Officer Walker, and all our department directors to improve public safety, continue investing in our schools, and secure our county’s fiscal future,” Klausmeier said in a statement.
“I have a strong record of building partnerships with leaders from every community and I look forward to using that experience to continue our progress and move Baltimore County forward.”
Here is the response from some Council members and other elected officials.
“On this historic afternoon, as the Council appointed Senator Kathy Klausmeier to Madame County Executive, I was honored to be voted in by my colleagues to become the Baltimore County Council Chairman for 2025.”
6th District Democratic Councilman Mike Ertel
“I would like to congratulate Senator Kathy Klausmeier on her appointment as Baltimore County Executive.
When the process of filling the vacant County Executive position begin, I said that I would support someone who could build bridges between Democrats and Republicans.
I wanted a leader who would get things done, and who would steer Baltimore County on a course that avoids raising taxes. Having known Senator Klausmeier for three decades, I believe she has those credentials.
This is a historic choice. Kathy Klausmeier will not only be the first woman sworn in as County Executive, but also the first from Perry Hall. I congratulate Kathy Klausmeier and look forward to partnering with her over the next two years.”
5th District Republican Councilman David Marks
Congratulations to Senator Kathy Klausmeier on becoming our new County Executive! Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to serving Baltimore County have been truly inspiring.
Senator [Klausmeier] is one of the few people who inspired me to enter public service, and I’ve had the honor of learning from her over the past seven years as we represented District 8 together.
While I will miss her presence in the General Assembly, I am confident she will continue to make a lasting impact in her new role. Wishing her every success in this exciting chapter!.
8th District Democratic Delegate Harry Bhandari
“Baltimore County’s newest County Executive is no stranger to the Fifth District we both call home. She is a true servant leader and has served her neighbors from her heart with a no nonsense, get it done leadership style for close to three decades.
She is keenly aware of issues facing our schools and has had my back during my service on the BOE when I have asked for support.
Warmest congratulations and best wishes to someone I am honored to call a friend and colleague”
Fifth District School Board Member Julie Henn
