After months of community input and careful traffic analysis, the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) announced it is moving forward with installing a traffic signal at Honeygo Boulevard and Cross Road in Perry Hall.
After four community meetings, completed detailed traffic studies, and 669 survey responses, residents shared preferences on three options: a roundabout at Honeygo & Cross, a signal at Honeygo & Cross, and a signal at Honeygo & Gunpowder Farm Road.
Survey results showed:
• 178 favored the roundabout
• 235 preferred a signal at Honeygo & Cross
• 235 supported a signal at Honeygo & Gunpowder Farm Road
While a roundabout was DPWT’s top engineering choice, concerns about community support and potential right-of-way delays made it less feasible. Based on community feedback and project considerations, DPWT is moving forward with the traffic signal at Honeygo Boulevard and Cross Road.
Among the reasons for selecting this option, Cross Road can better accommodate turning movements using the existing turn lanes and roadway geometry.
Also, the surrounding roadway network provides greater flexibility for distributing traffic. In addition, this option will create breaks in the traffic that will allow residents of the Windsor Condominiums at Perry Hall Farms to turn out of their far east exit.
