Perry Hall resident Kathleen Klausmeier is the new Baltimore County Executive. She was the state senator for District 8.
She takes over for John Olszewski, who was elected to Congress.
Much like Olszewski’s departure created an open seat, Klausmeier’s departure now creates a new open position for her old senate seat.
District 8, which encompasses south Perry Hall, Rosedale, Overlea, Parkville and a portion of Middle River, needs a new state senator.
The Democratic Central Committee will decide that seat.
It’s very likely that Klausmeier’s Democratic seat will be replaced by one of the three Democratic delegates in that district.
Nick Allen, Harry Bhandari and Carl Jackson are the three members of the House of Delegates in District 8.
Jackson has been mentioned as the favorite to succeed Klausmeier but Bhandari has served longer in Annapolis.
Allen released a statement that he won’t pursue the senate seat and will remain in the House of Delegates.
If one of those delegates is appointed to Klausmeier’s old state senate, the political musical chairs would continue as District 8 would then need to find a new member of the House of Delegates.
The Democratic Central Committee would then select the next delegate.
