Here is a quick rundown of the primary races today for Maryland Governor, Baltimore County Executive and the eastern Baltimore County races for State Senate, House of Delegates and County Council.
Governor Race
Democratic Gov. Wes Moore is seeking reelection. He will be challenged in November by the Republican nominee.
Dan Cox or Ed Hale will be the likely GOP candidate. John Myrick has an outside shot.
County Executive Race
The Democratic field is filled with current Councilmen Izzy Patoka, Julian Jones and Pat Young in the race, and Nick Stewart is a wild card for the Democrats. Mansoor Shams is the other Democrat in the race.
The Republican field only has Patrick Dyer and Kimberly Stansbury in the contest.
House of Delegates/State Senate
Every incumbent state senator and delegate on the east side (Districts 6, 7 and 8) is running for relection.
The only contested state senate primary race is in District 6 between Republican Sen. Johnny Ray Salling and challenger Daniel Eisenhart.
In the District 6 House of Delegates Republican primary, Delegates Robin Grammer, Bob Long and Ric Metzgar are seeking reelection. Henry Ciezkowski and Bobby Berger are trying to take a seat.
Democrats Artus W. Huffman, Megan Mioduszewski and Rayneika Robinson are unopposed.
District 7A Delegates Ryan Nawrocki and Kathy Szeliga are unopposed along with Sen. J.B. Jennings.
District 8 Delegates Nick Allen, Harry Bhandari and Kim Ross are seeking reelection. Marsha Briley-Savage is challenging for one of those seats on the Democratic side.
Zulieka Baysmore, Brian Campbell, Glen Geelhaar, Steven Riemer and Jacqueline Stevenson are facing off for the three nominations on the GOP side.
Democratic 8th District Senator Carl Jackson is unopposed in the primary and will face Republican challenger Yaku Blackwell in November.
County Council Races
Incumbent Democratic Councilman Mike Ertel Republican Councilman David Marks are both opposed.
Ertel will face Republican challenger Christine Vondersmith in the District 6 General Election and Marks will face Democrat Caridad “Cari” Santiago in November for the District 7 seat.
District 8 is one of the newly created districts. Crystal Cody, Sharonda Dillard-Huffman and Jack Carmody are the three Democratic candidates.
Cody ran in District 5 in 2022 under her maiden name Crystal Francis.
Republican Josh Sines is unopposed in the primary and will face the Democratic winner in the General Election.
Councilman Todd Crandell didn’t seek relection for his old District 7 (now District 9). Mark McCluskey, Ed Crizer Jr. and Arika Wade appear to be the top contenders on the Democratic side.
Tim Fazenbaker and JD Urbach are making the most headlines but Jake Mohorovic III and Russ Mirabile are also running for that seat.
