Perry Hall defeats Overlea 26-6 for first win of the year

Perry Hall came into their final regular season game winless but got their offense going with 26 points in the second half with a 26-6 home win against Overlea.

It was senior night at Perry Hall and the senior class left a strong football legacy with three straight trips to state semifinals, but their last year in high school was tough with injuries and a no wins through the first eight games.

After a scoreless first half, Perry Hall was the first team to score late in the third quarter when Caleb Clinton threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Derrion Coleman

Then the Gator offense exploded when Eyob Menkir connected with Miles Missouri a 36-yard and a 40-yard touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.

Overlea’s running game of quarterback Derrick Johnson and running backs Andre Drummond and Karter Holmes picked up yardage but the Falcons didn’t score until the fourth quarter on a two-yard Johnson touchdown run. That cut the Perry Hall lead to 13-6.

Overlea’s defense was looking to get the ball back for their offense, but Perry Hall running back Jaidon Johnson broke off a 49-yard touchdown run on the next play from scrimmage to seal the win.

Overlea finishes 4-5 and will open on the road in the 3A playoffs against Edgewood or Baltimore City College.

Perry Hall is now sixth in the 4A/3A North division and would play at Woodlawn in the first round. If Digital Harbor wins their game today, the Gators could fall back to seventh place and play at Kenwood next week.
