Sparrows Point Girls made it to the Baltimore County Soccer Championship but fell short against Towson in double overtime. The Pointers now turn their attention to defending their 2A State Championship as they open the playoffs against Eastern Tech on Friday.

“Very solid game, but tough one. Dropped the Baltimore County Championship to Towson 0-1 in double overtime, off a deflection,” coach Geoffrey Holland wrote after the game  “Back at it Wednesday to prep for Eastern Tech on Friday.”

2A North Region
Sparrows Point’s game against Eastern Tech is a rematch of a regular season game where Ami Walters had three goals in a 4-3 win.

The late September game had former Sparrows Point coach Jonathan Wynne on the sidelines of the Mavericks. Wynne is looking forward to the rematch.

“Obviously, it will be an emotional match for many reasons. Geoff [Holland] always has his team prepared and with four All County players on his squad, we have our work cut out for us,” Wynne told eastcountytimes.com “They are the defending state champions so of course we are not underestimating the challenge ahead.”

The game is set for a 5 p.m. start in Sparrows Point.

The Pointers are the top seed is this region. Eastern Tech is seeded fourth, but many believe the Mavericks are much better than their record.

“My girls had to navigate an extremely tough schedule this season. We faced Mercy and McDonogh on the road and John Carroll at home. I think those matches have prepared us to face a really great team Friday night,” Wynne added.

The other regional semifinal game in the 2A North has the second seeded Patapsco Patriots hosting third seeded Chesapeake with the winner meeting the Point-Tech winner in the 2A North Region Finals. All four local schools received a bye into the second round.

3A North Region

The only eastern county school in this region is Overlea. The Falcons are the fourth seed and will host the winner of Franklin and Dulaney in the first round. If Overlea wins their second round game, they would likely face county champion Towson in the regional final.

4A North Region
Perry Hall and Dundalk received first round byes in the 4A North Region. Dundalk host the winner of Parkville and Woodlawn (Parkville is the home team). Perry Hall host the winner of Kenwood and Western (Kenwood is the home team) The winners of these games will play in 4A North Regional final.
