“We Should Only Allow Senior Housing at Merritt Station II”

-by Delegate Bob Long, District 6-

Last week, I testified in front of the Board of Public Works (Gov. Wes Moore, Comptroller Brooke Liberman and Treasurer Derek Davis) on the Merritt Station II proposed housing project in Dundalk.

The Merritt Properties LLC’s project calls for the construction of an 84-unit age-restricted community, located at 1440 Merritt Blvd.

The Department of Housing and Community Development was asking for approval from the Board to provide a $3,500,000 loan under the Rental Housing Works Program for this project.

I needed to emphasize that senior housing only should be permitted at this site. Seniors do not put as much strain on our infrastructure as our schools are overcrowded.

I wanted to make sure that the Board was aware of that. Also, I asked them if they could put a covenant in the deed, to specify for seniors only housing at this site. That would give less heart burn over this project.
