October is here, but where are the candidate forums?

The General Election is just over a month away as we enter October but the lack of local candidates forums is concerning.

It was great that Harford Park Community Association held a candidate forum for District 8 state Senate and House of Delegates, but not many more are scheduled.

The Greater North Point Association held multiple forums during the primary and the group is holding a forum between the District 9 Council candidates Arika Wade and Tim Fazenbaker on Tuesday.

There is also an organization holding an online candidate forum for all the candidates in the nine districts but each district needs its own forum between the two candidates in their home district.

The League of Woman Voters [LWV] held seven councilmanic forums in previous election cycles and brought each forum into that home district instead of making everyone drive to Towson.

There has been no mention of any LWV council candidate forums this year. Maybe expanding from seven to nine districts was too big of an undertaking for LWV, but the expanded districts is more reason for a forum.

The Tim Fazenbaker vs. Arika Wade race is an open seat with the retirement of Todd Crandell and the District 8 race between Sharonda Dillard-Huffman and Josh Sines is an open seat for a newly created district.

The community needs to learn about these new candidates and hopefully there are many forums on the schedule that I’m not aware.
