Sparrows Point Grad Named Defensive Player of the Week

Sparrows Point High grad Joss Metz was named MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week after she led York College to a 2-0 win over Eastern University.

Metz is a freshman goalkeeper at the southern Pennsylvania school. She led Sparrows Point to a state title in girls soccer last year.

York College freshman goalie Joss Metz has been named the MAC Commonwealth Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Metz led the Spartans to a 2-0 win over Eastern University in the Spartans’ lone match for the week. 

In the match, Metz pitched her sixth shutout of the year as she made fives saves in the win over the Eagles. In the 57th minute, the Eagles had a free kick just outside of the box. Metz made the save on Olivia Nicholson’s shot to keep York on top 1-0.

Eastern had another great chance in the 85th minute as the Spartans were whistled for another foul just outside of the box. This time, Metz made a save on Nicole Eveland to preserve the clean sheet for the Spartans. 

For the season, is 8-2-3 with six shutouts. She owns a 0.57 goals against average while she owns a save percentage of .881 on 52 saves.
